Website Design & Construction

Website & Graphic Design #01 Basic Issues

"So you're thinking about creating a website?

Here is some information that will hopefully educate and inform you without getting technical. It will discuss the potential problems and how you can avoid them and, most importantly, show you that you can create and update your own website.

Yeah, Yeah, (I hear you say) I've heard it all before!

Well, maybe not - lots of people have learned that they can do this - read on ...."

Website & Graphic Design #02 1. So why do I need a website anyway?

Because a website enables you to:

- advertise your services: the web is a really cost effective way to announce your presence.

- obtain new clients: by ensuring that you use a reputable web company, people will find you when they search the web.

- keep existing clients up to date: it is much cheaper to update a website than to continually reprint literature when you are offering new services or products.

- emphasise your professionalism: your website shows that you take yourself seriously and may make a difference when clients are looking for someone in your field.

2. Potential Problems

Some points for consideration:

- cost: how much can you afford?
Make sure that you understand at the beginning how much it’s going to cost.

- be prepared.
Assuming that someone else is doing the ‘techy’ bit - remember that it’s usually you that will have to prepare the content i.e. the words and images.

- what about changes to the website?
How are you going to keep it up to date? Remember that there are cost implications here: who is going to make those changes?

3. Practical advice

Please don’t be daunted. It’s only by understanding what’s involved that you are going to succeed. Anyone that tries to gloss it all over, or worse, confuse you with technical terms, is going to cause you problems.

Q: All right then, so how can I get the benefits whilst avoiding the problems? I’m also worried that I’m not technical and don’t want to be, I’m very busy and I don’t have £££££’s.

A: Wilde Designs has worked out a way for small organisations and individuals to be able to create a website, cost effectively, with minimum hassle and has references to prove it.

Q: So what do you do that’s different then?

A: We use a method of development that means that if you can use a word processor (and you don’t have to be a fantastic typist!) you can put together your website. This is not glib and we have done it many times with people who didn’t believe they could do it either.

Website & Graphic Design #044. Making it happen

WILDE DESIGNS is passionate about ethical, profitable business and has a commitment to sharing exclusive and expensive knowledge with its clients. Making your website development as painless as possible is our aim. This is how we do it:

a) Arrange an initial meeting to discuss your ideas and create a plan of action.

b) Start working together, one to one, to do the initial set up and, to the extent that you want to learn, teach you how it is done, with the emphasis on your being able to independently update your website.

c) If you need photos (for example, of yourself, or your premises or products) we can take those for you or use your own, we have scanners and printers and all the necessary software.

d) Similarly with other graphics, we can assist with design of logos or other images and/or use those that you already have. A good example of this work is a commission to design an image for an animal healer and communicator who wanted to be seen with the animals she works with in an inspiring and creative way click here to have a look at it.

e) Working together, we should be able to get your website ready for its first launch very quickly. After that, we are happy to discuss what level of support, if any, you require for the future.
